Research Project "SIMNET Styria"

The project "SIMNET Styria", founded by the Styrian government, is developed together with the coordination partners University of Leoben (Montanuniversität Leoben) and Joanneum Research Forschungsgesellschaft mbH. The purpose is to create a scientific and industrial network dealing with numerical and mathematical simulation.

Service Project “Speed-up of BOOST Aftertreatment to Enable Real-time Simulation of Exhaust Systems: Improvement of Solution Models”
After the successful completion of last year’s service project on behalf of AVL List GmbH, the subsequent 6-months project deals with the further enhancement of mathematical models for exhaust system simulation. The objective of this project is to improve the tool AVL BOOST by complementing the established simulation with new physical models for a faster and more flexible computation.

Research Project “NANOHEALTH“

The network-project “Nano-Structured Materials for Drug Targeting, Release and Imaging” aims at creating a platform for the development of new multifunctional nanoparticles for non-invasive targeted drugs administration in the therapy of chronic diseases. The RCPE’s  contribution deals with the development and the scale-up of a suitable production process. The project is initiated and coordinated by the BioNanoNet network.

Service Project “A Preliminary Study on the Automated Detection of Gel-Leakage from Tubes into Blister Packaging “
The scope of this contractual service for the Pharmazeutische Fabrik Montavit Ges.m.b.H. was the development of a fully automated, non-invasive in-line product quality check, based on process analytical technologies (PAT). On the basis of various experimental tests, a concept for the process optimization was delivered. This convincing concept for the realization of the PAT based quality control, recommended by the RCPE, is on the way to be realized together with plant and sensor manufacturer within a follow-up project.

Service Project "Engineering Services in the Field of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering"
The objective of this service project is to support one of the center’s industrial partners in internal research and production projects. Based on the center’s expertise in chemical and biochemical engineering, the RCPE can thus provide target-oriented engineering services in a very quick and efficient way.

Service Project "Numerical Simulation of a Driaconti-T® Pharma Coater"
The aim of this study was to numerically optimize the DRIACONTI-T® Pharma coater from DRIAM Anlagenbau GmbH. The effects of tablets form, mass load and baffles geometry on the mixing quality inside the coating device have been computationally analyzed by means of the Discrete Elemets Method (DEM).

Service Project "Evaluation of the Drug Release from Fenofibrate Pellets under Physiological Conditions"

The aim of the project is the investigation of the dissolution profile of sustained release pellets in bio-relevant media, to predict the in vivo behaviour of the oral formulation.

Service Project "Characterization of Selected Powders"

The objective of this service project was to investigate different powders in order to identify why some of the client’s customers reported different characteristics in their specific applications. RCPE applied state-of-the-art Small- and Wide-Angle X-Ray Scattering (SWAXS), Near-Infrared (NIR) Spectroscopy and Brunauer, Emmett and Teller (BET) Surface Area Analysis in these investigations, and thus provided a deeper insight into the different raw material parameters.

Service Project "A Preliminary Study on Surface Modification of Glass Vessels for Preventing Alkali Diffusion"
One of the leading manufacturers for pharmaceutical glasses in Europe, Stölzle-Oberglas GmbH requested a contractual service for an intelligent and manufacturing-process-aligned surface modification of their products, to prevent alkali diffusion into pharmaceutical liquids. On the basis of smart surface modification techniques, developed at the RCPE, follow-up projects were initiated aiming at improvements and development of strategies for an implementation within the manufacturing process.

Service Project "Development of a Coating Process for the Preparation of Sustained Release Potassium Hydrochloride Crystals"
The objective of the project is the development of a coating process for the preparation of a sustained release oral dosage form.
