When we think of great innovators, we typically imagine extraordinary individuals who created and produced at a sudden stroke of genius. Often enough we forget that in reality great ideas can come from anywhere and that innovation often requires much time and dedication, as well as a collective effort of many. Innovation does not simply involve technology. Innovation is a collaborative effort of people coming together to solve tough problems via novel solutions. The future belongs to those who establish win-win relationships across the corporate and disciplinary borders rather than wait for a stroke of genius.

Sustainable and successful innovation extends beyond one company. Even if the idea is ground-breaking, others have to adopt or buy into it. One needs capital. One needs partners. One needs exceptional people to assist with the implementation. This is exactly the mindset that RCPE has carefully cultivated since its inception. Whether it is our cross-disciplinary project teams, flexible business models or the integration of industrial and scientific partners, every action and decision has to do with the individual needs and the results we strive for.

Due to its scientific excellence and leadership, combined with continuous improvements and professionalization of human resources, finances and controlling and business operations, RCPE has beome an exceptional partner to large multinationals as well as to small and medium-sized enterprises on their complex and challenging journey to modernize pharmaceutical manufacturing. As an K1 Competence Center within the COMET program, RCPE plays an integral role in linking academia and industry, translating the latest scientific developments, concepts and breakthroughs into industrial applications, creating value for companies and patients. Teams, structure and duration are carefully chosen for each project to complement the individual needs and idiosyncracies while maintaining an optimal cost efficiency.

Partners may choose from a variety of funded and non funded cooperation scenarios as follows:

K1 Projects
Unlike other national and international funding programs, COMET K1 funding (up to 55% of research-related project costs) does not require time-consuming application procedures and has fewer regulations: the project must simply be within RCPE’s scientific focus and new scientific know-how must be generated as a result. The project consortia must contain at least one scientific and two industrial partners. Due to the public funding, this cooperation scenario is particularly suitable for projects whose potential is not yet fully explored and for companies aiming to balance the risk and the investment.

NonK Projects
NonK projects are implemented within the non-sponsored project area, and the project costs have to be fully covered by the project consortium. A big advantage of NonK projects is that they are not bound by any regulations and can be customized to the needs of a specific client. Particularly for industrial partners that would like to reduce the publicity (e.g., publication of the results is not obligatory), performing a project within the NonK area can be highly attractive. In combination with a K1 project, an optimal business flexibility can be achieved.

Funded NonK projects offer an opportunity to significantly reduce the costs of a NonK-project by applying to national and international funding programs (e.g., Framework Program of the European Union).

Within the scope of Contractual Research Projects (Service Projects), RCPE acts as a contractor and provides specific services to one or more clients that fully cover the costs without any internal or external funding. Contractual research projects at RCPE compromise a wide span of services, from small studies to long-term projects, with our clients receiving full rights to the project’s results. In this case, combining K1 and NonK-projects can be effective for reducing the overall project costs.

Strategic Partnerships
RCPE’s strategic partnerships focus on clients that are interested in long-term cooperation, utilization of synergies and the combination of complementary expertise to enhance each other’s business rather than in a specific service or project outcome. Each strategic partnership is evaluated on a case-by-case basis, aiming to achieve a perfect alignment in spirit, vision and culture.
