At RCPE, we see women’s health as a key innovation field and focus on intra-vaginal, subcutaneous and dermal drug delivery systems that can be tailored to individual anatomy, symptoms, and treatment needs.

What we Do

Vaginal, Dermal & Implantable System

Develop intra-vaginal rings, personalized vaginal pessaries, subcutaneous implants, and drug loaded temporary “tattoos” using FDA/EMA approved materials for short and long-term, localized as well as systemic drug delivery.

Scalable Manufacturing Technologies

Use hot-melt (co-)extrusion, extrusion-based 3D-printing, and inkjet printing to establish robust and scalable manufacturing routes.

Tailored Multi-Material Formulations

Design complex matrix and multi-material systems, including non-hormonal options, that can be adapted to different indications and patient needs.

Low-API Early Development

Work efficiently with very low material amounts in early development to enable feasibility studies when API supply is limited.

In Vitro Testing & Stability

Perform in vitro dissolution and stability studies according to ICH, USP, and Ph. Eur. guidelines to deliver transfer ready formulations, processes, and pre-clinical prototypes.

Areas of Application

Our application areas focus on advanced technologies for safer, more efficient, and sustainable pharmaceutical process development. By combining continuous-flow methods, innovative reaction concepts, and digital tools, we enable robust and scalable solutions for the synthesis of APIs and their intermediates.

Personalized vaginal pessaries

Standard pessaries are available in only a few rigid, predefined shapes and sizes designed for a nonexistent “average patient”. We use adapted 3D-printing with flexible, biocompatible polymers to create personalized pessaries that fit each woman’s anatomy and symptom profile, with the option to integrate controlled drug release.

Intra-vaginal rings

We design intra-vaginal rings for both short and long-term use that can support localized or systemic drug delivery. Our matrix and multi-material designs enable tailored release profiles, combination therapies, and nonhormonal options for a broad range of gynecological and hormone related indications.

Subcutaneous implants

We develop subcutaneous implants as long-acting drug-delivery options. By combining hot-melt (co-)extrusion and printing technologies, we create stable systems from both biodegradable and non-biodegradable polymers that can sustain drug release over extended periods and help improve treatment adherence and patient convenience.

Drug-loaded temporary “tattoos”

We developed dermal drug loaded temporary “tattoos” as minimally invasive, highly accepted delivery option to the skin. By combining inkjet printing with advanced in-line quality control strategies, we provide controlled drug release for both topical and transdermal applications.
